The Town of East Gwillimbury is a designated growth municipality in Northern York Region, with the projected population increasing from 23,000 to 88,000 people by 2031. East Gwillimbury is close to the city of Toronto and its amenities, while maintaining its famous small-town charm.
The Town’s commitment to the environment and sustainability through its “Thinking Green!” Strategy is receiving acclaim and winning awards. The Town has excellent access to Highway 404 with extensive public transit, including GO Transit commuter trains and buses, as well as York Region and VIVA Transit.
With respect to employment, both the Town and Region’s growth management work is projecting significant increases in employment growth, with East Gwillimbury experiencing the highest rate of increase in York Region.
The Town’s employment population is projected to reach 35,000 jobs by 2031, representing an increase of approximately 500 per cent. It is the Town’s strategic objective to achieve a 50% activity rate, targeting one job for every two residents by 2031 by capitalizing on the development of the Town’s Employment Corridors.
