The York Region Employment Survey is the largest and most comprehensive collection of employment locations across the Region’s nine local municipalities.
Background Information
The York Region Employment Survey collects information such as Company Name, Address, Key Contact, Business Activity and Number of Employees for over 28,000 businesses, effectively promoting the York Region business community to the general public.
The dataset has continually grown, with the number of businesses increasing 2.3% annually between 2002 and 2012. As of 2012, there were an estimated 527,500 jobs in the Region.
Recent employment growth in a number of industry sectors has contributed to the diversification of an already broad-based economy. This diversification helps to insulate our economy from sectoral shifts in the business cycle.

Note: The 2012 York Region Employment Survey includes all companies with a physical presence in York Region e.g. office/retail/warehouse/factory locations, but excludes farm based businesses. Home-based businesses are currently included on a voluntary basis.

NEW in 2012: The Business Directory/Employment Survey now includes home-based businesses. While a door-to-door Employment Survey will not be completed for these businesses, the Region will contact all home-based businesses that would like to participate in the Survey.
